Esoteric Christianity 05 Psychological Cleansing of the Temple

Esoteric Christianity teaches that we must perform “psychological work” in order to achieve perfection (teleios). This lecture explains the meaning of Jesus driving the money changers and merchants out of the temple.

“Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables.” – John 2:13-15

We must learn how to be vigilant in life, and go to “war” against the enemy, which is our own ego. We do this through contemplation and comprehension of our sins and the psychological defects which produced them.

This lecture also explains the basis of Christian Meditation, with quotes from The Desert Fathers and The Imitation of Christ by Thomas à Kempis.
